Telecom Fiji Warriors Qualify for 2016 APC Finals

The Telecom Fiji Warriors have qualified for the final of the World Rugby’s 2016 America Pacific Challenge currently being played in Uruguay.

This is after the team defeated Samoa ‘A’ 39-26 yesterday morning.

Tries were scored by Eremasi Radrdro, Sakiusa Gavidi, Ilaisa Leca, Apete Daveta and Fredrick Hickes, while Alivereti Veitokani slotted in two penalties and four conversions.

Telecom Fiji Warriors Coach, Senirusi Seruvakula said that even though the team had won he was not impressed with the way they played.

“There were some good and bad plays, but there is a need to maintain discipline for 80 minutes. We cannot afford to play how we did today, if we want to win the final.”

The Rupeni Nasiga captained side will face Argentina ‘A’ in the finals and Seruvakula knows that this will be a step up for the team as their opponents have an experienced side.

“We are looking forward to the final. It will be a tougher battle and good experience for the team, because most of the players from the Super Rugby Jaguares team make up the Argentina ‘A’ Team.”

“Areas that we will work on this week are the set pieces for the scrum and line out.”

“The boys have been told that they will need to be more aggressive at the breakdown and more importantly be disciplined out on the field, in order to win the final.”

FRU CEO, Mr John O’Connor congratulated the team on their win but reminded the team that the battle is not over.

“There is still a need for discipline in the side if they want to win the finals. I have reminded them that there is a huge challenge ahead and that they need to remain grounded and prepare well for the final.”

The Telecom Fiji Warriors will face Argentina ‘A’ in the America Pacific Cup final on Monday, 7.30am (Fiji Time) and can be watched via LIVE STREAM on www.worldrugby.org
