Skipper Cup – where we’re at after round 5

After five rounds Namosi is at the top spot with 21 points, Suva at second with 18 points followed by Nadroga with 16 points and Naitasiri with 14 points at fourth place.

Lautoka has jumped over to the fifth place with 9 points while Tailevu drops to sixth place with 7 points, Yasawa is sitting at seventh place with 6 points as Nadi at the bottom of the table with a slight – 8 points difference.

For the 14-round robin, each team will play either 6 or 8 home games, or 6 or 8 away games. We’re now left with nine rounds to go as we’ve reached the fifth-round last weekend.

As we’re heading into the sixth round, the bottom teams Nadi, Yasawa, Tailevu, and Lautoka must try to get as many wins as possible to avoid relegation. The position on the competition table is determined based on the result between the teams from their round-robin matches.

Nadi recorded 1 draw, 3 loss and 1 win earning them 6 points after the fifth round, if they want to survive relegation then they need to win at least another 6 rounds to jump ahead of Yasawa, Tailevu or Lautoka.

Yasawa, Tailevu, and Lautoka are no exception as they’ll also need to gather as much win as possible within these 10 rounds to accumulate points and move up the ladder.

The top 4 teams Namosi, Suva, Nadroga, and Naitasiri are all in a favorable position right now, Nadroga and Naitasiri have recorded 3 wins each. While Suva only lost 1 match and won 4 of their 5 games, they’ll be more likely to remain on top 4 if they get another 4 wins.

Namosi is the only undefeated team in the competition and they’ll remain in the top 4 if they record another 3 wins.

There won’t be a Farebrother Challenge in this sixth round as Namosi (Farebrother Holder) is playing their away game against Nadi on Friday 28 August at Prince Charles Park, Nadi.

On Saturday Naitasiri host Tailevu at Ratu Cakobau Park, Lautoka host Suva at Churchill Park while Nadroga host Yasawa at Lawaqa Park.

Women will open the games at 11 am and Under-19 will play at 1 pm while seniors will run on to the field at 3 pm.
