Refresher Course for Sevens Coaches

The Fiji Rugby Union Development Unit organized a refresher course coaches of the local 7s clubs who are participating at the Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series in Lautoka last week.
A one-day refresher course was held in Suva earlier this week with team coaches from the Central and Eastern division. They were fortunate to have the opportunity to learn and grasp as much knowledge regarding the 7s code.
Fijiana 7s team Head Coach Saiasi Fuli and his assistant Timoci Volavola, the referee manager Johnson Lee and World Sevens Series referee Tevita Rokovereni including Fiji Rugby National Development Manager Lionel Danford were present during the course.
Seahawks 7s team Head Coach Elenoa Kunatuba was satisfied with the refresher course especially with the opportunity to raise concerns on how to improve team discipline, fitness, how to be consistent and the drive to be a certified World Rugby 7s coach.
“For us coaches it’s a big help and a bit of inspiration because we’ve been coaching sevens for a while and we have been trying to get accredited.
We have been recognized for our coaching but we need to get our papers so the refresher course will inspire us to commit again to get accredited,” said Kunatuba.
National Development Manager Lionel Danford is keen to make some changes by helping local 7s coaches get accredited and the possibility of getting them closer to coaching at national level.
“I believe this is not the first refresher course we’ve held here, organized by the Fiji Rugby Development Unit and one of the aims for this course is getting these coaches across the line and that is the completion of their Level Two diary and also get accredited,” said Danford.
“We’ve been doing this process for the last two years and we are doing it again and we are getting hard on the coaches because we want them to be recognized and accredited.
The course was held on Tuesday last week with the coaches from the Central and Eastern division while the western division had their training on Wednesday before third leg of the Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series that was held in Lautoka last week.
