Nadroga aims to set a benchmark in their opener against Suva

It’ll be double the weight and double the expectation when defending Skipper Cup champions Suva takes on Farebrother holder Nadroga in the first round of Skipper Cup at Lawaqa park.

Suva will be coming in hard against the stallions in an attempt to clinch away the Farebrother trophy from Nadroga while the Stallions will be looking to avenge their loss from the 2019 Skipper grand finale.

Both teams have been preparing around the clock throughout the preseason and both are expecting an intense battle in their Skipper opener.

Expectations are high and Nadroga Rugby president Tiko Matawalu knows that his boys are not new to this situation.

“Nadroga is not new to preparing for big games like this, they know what they are going to be up against.”

“They know what they need to do to put up the right game for challenges such as this, especially for Suva.”

Matawalu knows that Suva will be the favorites in this opener and he said Nadroga will not let the Farebrother trophy slip away from their possession.

“Suva is being laced with very colourful player profiles and that’s an uphill battle for Nadroga.”

“There’s going to be a lot of fireworks in this game because it’s a replay of the final of Skipper last year and it’s also a replay of the Farebrother Challenge.”

“We have a lot of confidence in our coaches and our players and we are looking forward to a good game.”

He added that It’s the first game of the season and it’s going to set the benchmark for the rest of the season.

Suva takes on Nadroga 3 pm this Saturday at Lawaqa park, Sigatoka, Naitasiri takes on Lautoka at Cakobau Park, Yasawa takes on Nadi at Prince Charles Park and Namosi takes on Tailevu at Thompson Park, Navua.
