MATCH REPORT – Fijiana V England

Fijiana 15’s had a good first half in the inaugural match against World number one ranked England at the Rugby World Cup currently underway at Eden Park in Auckland, New Zealand.

England came into the game with 25 winning run and that was obvious in the performance as they scored 14 tries of which only four was scored in the first 40. England defeated Fijiana 84-19.

Alowesi Nakoci’s name will certainly go into the history books, as the first women’s player to score a try for Fijiana. Sesenieli Donu and Lavena Cavuru were the two more try scorers in the game.

Fijiana Head Coach Senirusi Seruvakula said playing at the World Cup is itself a huge achievement for women’s rugby in Fiji.

“I’m very proud of the girls. We managed to hold them in the first half but lost focus in the second spell.

Playing against the very professional side like England, we need to be consistent don’t give a lot of errors plus we need to be smart” said Seruvakula.

Fijiana Captain Sereima Leweniqila said there is still an opportunity to go further if we polish up a few things.

“Playing against the number one in the World, I’m happy we held them in the first half.

We have to do a lot of homework and learn how to keep the momentum going before the next match against South Africa” said Leweniqila.

Fijiana takes on South Africa at Waitakere Stadium – 4-45pm FJT on Sunday.
