Fiji Rugby pleased with the outcome of AGM

Fiji Rugby Chief Executive John O’Connor is pleased to announce that they had a healthy Annual General Meeting at Novotel Hotel in Lami today.

The excitement topped up with the Fiji Rugby President and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama being elected unopposed for the next four years on his birthday.

O’Connor said “In the AGM today firstly we celebrated the birthday of our President Voreqe Bainimarama.”

“There also was election for the President and the board of directors and the President was unopposed and confirmed for another four year term. Likewise the nine other directors have been confirmed to continue until next year when we will have elections on rotation bases for two more directors.”

The Board presented Fiji Rugby’s annual report for 2018 alongside the financial reports.

O’Connor added “Financially we did better than 2017. Last year we achieved a profit of $569,000 compared to $200,000 in 2017. We thank our sponsors Fiji Airways, Vodafone, Carpenters, Fiji Water, Fiji Sun, CJ Patel for allowing us to fund our national team plus support the game down to the Provincial Unions and beyond.”

O’Connor said the only concern from the union was on cementing a sponsorship for the Women’s Provincial competition. “We are now negotiating to have a major sponsor for women’s division off the Fiji Rugby Skipper Championship and the Vodafone Vanua Cup. So hopefully in next few months we will be making an announcement. In the meantime we will be supporting the Unions as best we can for their women’s teams.”

Meanwhile, the Board endorsed Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama, Pio Bosco Tikoisuva, Ratu Ilaitia Tuisese Senior and Tomasi Vuetilovoni as life members of Fiji Rugby.
