FRU Submits Fiji for 7s Bid to World Rugby

The Fiji Rugby Union has today confirmed that the tender bid process to host a leg of the HSBC World 7s Series 2019/2020 officially closed yesterday, Wednesday, 28 February, 2018 at 5.00pm (Dublin Time).

The FRU CEO, John O’Connor this afternoon has confirmed that the Fiji Rugby Union complied with the bid requirements and had submitted their bid to World Rugby prior to the deadline. “We can confirm that we have submitted our bid submission to World Rugby prior to the deadline”, he said

The FRU CEO highlighted that the Fiji Rugby Union together with the Fiji Rugby Bid team, led by Brian Thorburn and Greg Peters are confident that they have submitted a credible and strong bid which ticks all the criteria boxes in all the categories as set out by World Rugby. “We are confident that we have submitted a very strong and credible bid”.

Mr. O’Connor confirmed that the FRU now looks forward to participating in the evaluation process with World Rugby.

A decision on the bid is expected to be delivered by World Rugby by June 2018.

The FRU and the FRU Bid Team would like to thank His Excellency, the President of Fiji, the Honorable Prime Minister, the Honorable Attorney General & Minister of Economy, the Fijian Government, all our Affiliate Unions, Sponsors, Corporate Organisations, relevant Government Ministries and all Fijians throughout the World for supporting our bid which has allowed us to submit a very strong bid.

The FRU expects to make public the details of the FRU Bid submission at their Fiji Rugby Awards Dinner which is planned for the 9th of March 2018.
