FIJI Water Flying Fijians seal win at home


FIJI Water Flying Fijians have made a winning start in their campaign for Rugby World Cup beating Tonga 36-20 in the first test match at Churchill Park in Lautoka.

The Simon Raiwalui-coached side made a firing start running three straight tries within 12 minutes.

Referee James Doleman handed a yellow card to Tongan lock Tanginoa Halaifonua and awarded a penalty try to Fiji.

Skipper Waisea Nayacalevu scored in the 7th minute while four minutes later Sam Matavesi dived over the try line.

Tonga managed to settle in the game and responded with two tries and a penalty before Josua Tuisova ran past the defense line and extended the FIJI Water Flying Fijians score.

Fiji led 26-15 at the breather.

In the second spell, the Ikale Tahi looked to have settled well after getting the first five points. On debut, FIJI Water Flying Fijians fly-half Caleb Muntz played an outstanding performance collecting nine points off the tee.

Peni Matawalu scored the final try of the game as FIJI Water Flying Fijians defeated Tonga 36-20 in-front of a jammed packed crowd.

The FIJI Water Flying Fijians face Samoa in their second test match next week Saturday.
