Fiji ranked top in-terms of Training and Education workshops

Fiji has been recognized as the leading country in the deliverance of World Rugby Training and Education workshops, programs, and courses.

Fiji came fifth in 2019 but was ranked at first place by World Rugby late last year (2020).

The recognition came in after a successful 2020 training and education program by the Fiji Rugby Development Unit throughout the country, thus getting more interest in rugby coaching and match officiating while also taking the game to a whole new level.

Although it was a challenging year due to COVID-19, FRU Development Unit used this challenging time as an opportunity to take their Training and Education program to all parts of the country.

This recognition is a reflection of all the hard work and commitment from the FRU as well as the World Rugby Educators and Trainers in Fiji.

Fiji Rugby Development Manager Koli Sewabu said that a major boost in delivering their program was the criteria put in place by Fiji Rugby for all its domestic competitions.

“What also helps is the recognition by our governing body (FRU) to have criteria in place for most of our domestic competitions where coaches, match officials, S&C, medicals, and a few others needed World Rugby accreditation to be involved in the game,” said Sewabu.

World Rugby has applauded the Fiji Rugby for a successful deliverance of its Training and Education program.

8“World Rugby recognizes this as a great Return On Investment (ROI) where development funds are utilized well for the growth of the game,” said Sewabu.

Sewabu added that the response from the community has been positive as they’ve been getting more interest from other regions.

“The feedback from the community has always been positive, rugby is an evolving game where changes are inevitable,” said Sewabu.

Sewabu emphasized that it’s crucial for stakeholders of the game to be constantly refreshed on training and education programs to stay ahead of the game and keep up with the modern changes of the sport.
