World Rugby Level 2 Regional Strength and Conditioning Course currently underway in Nadi

The World Rugby Level 2 Regional Strength and Conditioning course is underway at the Sky Lodge hotel in Nadi with 30 participants from provincial unions, including representatives from Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Cook Islands and Samoa.

The objective of this five days’ session is to identify a process for developing a training plan around a performance goal. Identify      key information that should be included in a training program and to understand what is required of them in the training program assessment.

Course facilitator Naca Cawanibuka highlighted the importance of Strength and Conditioning duties and how it can help a team and players bring out positive outcomes.

“We will also be touching on planning and programming and this is a very important part of our coaching process, where we also work close together with our rugby coaches, Strength and Conditioning coaches and our medical team,” said Cawanibuka.

“This is the direction we really need to go on because gone are the days where the head coach works on their own and the S&C do their own programming.

“This is the time where we actually have to integrate and that will be the mark of a really successful program.

“At the end of the day, what we are trying to achieve is how best we can prepare our athletes or players to protect them and safeguard them from injury and also maximize their opportunity to perform well and that’s the important part of their training program.”
