We are the underdogs says Laqeretabua

England-based Raijieli Laqeretabua believes Fijiana is the underdogs of the tournament and is ready to battle the experienced teams which have been lined up in front of them at the Rugby World Cup.

Laqeretabua said “We are the underdogs in the tournament which will allow us to be focused and keep ourselves humble and do our best in the game.

I’m confident in training and clarities have been going very well and it’s just about the game now.”

The former Saracens player said they have been working hard on certain areas and are looking forward to improving it against South Africa on Sunday.

She added that South Africa who has been in the World Cup before will be a tough side to play against as they are a forward-oriented team that will try to push our scrums, mauls, and line-outs.

“They are a physical side and they have strength all around but I’m confident that my girls will bring the best game as we also have our strengths as well.

We are really excited and I think it’s just another challenge for us and we have had a lot of positives from the game against England and a lot of work ons done for the second pool match.”

Laqeretabua made her debut for the Fijiana against Australia in the test match earlier this year. She also featured in the Oceania Championships which was held in New Zealand.

She said it’s always a proud moment for her and the family to represent the home country.

“It’s always an honor to represent my home country and be able to play for the girls and to be the first Pacific team to be in the World Cup,” said Laqeretabua.

Fijiana takes on South Africa at 4.45pm FJT on Sunday.
