Vodafone Deans and Weetbix Raluve Season Round-Up: Zone Finals Set for Tomorrow

The Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union (FSSRU) has reported significant growth in school preparations this season, culminating in the highly anticipated zone finals of the Vodafone Deans competition tomorrow.

FSSRU Vice President, Mr. Savenaca Muamua, credited the progress of teams to the unwavering support from parents, ex-scholars, and schools.

“Rugby is very expensive—there is only a small grant provided by the Ministry of Education for Sports Development, and the majority of funding comes from ex-scholars, parents, and school fundraising efforts,” Muamua said. “Their dedication has been crucial in helping teams advance, which is why we see both established teams and promising newcomers making their mark and earning a spot in the National Finals.”

Despite challenges such as limited access to quality grounds, the FSSRU noted an increase in participation, with 121 schools competing this year compared to 117 in 2024.

“Growth in participation brings associated demands—more grounds, finances, match officials, and teachers to manage teams,” Muamua added.

Following tomorrow’s zone finals, the two finalists from the Eastern and Southern Zones will automatically qualify for the National Finals. Meanwhile, the losing finalists from last week will compete for third place against teams from the Northern Zone. The Western Zone will send two finalists straight to the Vodafone Deans Quarterfinals.


The FSSRU has confirmed that the Vodafone Deans and Weetbix Raluve Quarterfinals will be held in the Western Division, with venues to be announced once logistics are finalized.

As excitement builds for tomorrow’s clashes, fans and supporters are urged to rally behind their schools in what promises to be a thrilling conclusion to the zonal stage of Fiji’s premier secondary school rugby competition.
