Suva crowned ANZ Marama Champions

Suva Rugby team ran in nine tries to two beating Yasawa 51-12 in the ANZ Marama Championship final at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori today.

The capital city girls fielded one of their strongest teams in the final and they showed their worth from the first minute of the game.

6 minutes into the play Suva opened the scoresheet and it was none other than Fijiana Drua winger Younis Bese who ran in for the first try. Suva dominated the play and managed to get their second try through Adi Vika Naibena.

Suva maintained the pressure and after numerous attempts, they went in for their third try, scored by Vitalina Mirini. Teresia Matea and Ana Moceura then pilled another two tires as Suva led 29-nil at the breather.

It was again a strong start for Suva in the second spell as a minute into kick-off they managed to run in their fifth try through Livia Naidei.

Adi Vika Naibena, Younis Bese and Vitilina Mirini all scored their second try in the last 40 as Suva extended their lead to 51-nil.

Yasawa managed to break their opponents’ defense in the last quarter of the game scoring two tries through Salote Vuniwaqa and Ani Mei.

Suva Captain Vuli Saumi thanked her players for the hard-hitting game and the supporters who turned out in numbers to encourage the team on the final.

“It was not an easy final, I thank our opponents Yasawa for displaying a good game and I would also like to thank my team for putting up a courageous performance,” said Saumi.
