Nasoko Programme Strengthens Fiji Rugby’s High-Performance Pathway.

Fiji Rugby has launched the inaugural Nasoko Programme, bringing together some of the country’s most promising Under-16 and Under-18 girls and boys for talent identification, development and inclusion in the national high-performance pathway
The programme began with a planning meeting at Tanoa Skylodge in Nadi, attended by the school coaches who will lead the participating teams throughout the week.
Players will undergo Functional Movement Screening before taking part in a series of matches. The girls’ matches will be held at Namaka Public School Ground, while the boys will compete at Ba Methodist School Ground.
The Nasoko Programme features players selectedfrom schools across the Eastern, Southern, Western and Northern regions. The initiative is designed to identify and profile emerging talent while developing players’ understanding of the game, positional requirements and high-performance standards.
It will also align participants with Fiji Rugby’s national men’s and women’s sevens and fifteens pathways.
Coaches from the four regions will also be exposed to high-performance coaching methods. Participating players and coaches will enter Fiji Rugby’s High-Performance Pathway for ongoing tracking, monitoring and development.
Through the Impact Beyond Programme, funded by the Australian Government in partnership with World Rugby and Fiji Rugby’s High-Performance and Development Units, players will have access to specialist coaching, training facilities, strength and conditioning, skills development and game education.
At the conclusion of the programme, 120 outstanding athletes—30 female and 30 male—will be selected for High-Performance Academy scholarships and 30 female and 30 males will be tracked in development pathway placements.
The Development Placement recipients will have access to HPU Programs, facilities and coaching.
Every participating player will also be screened, profiled and entered into Fiji Rugby’s national database for continued monitoring and development.
The programme is expected to help establish the foundation of Fiji’s national teams for 2031 and beyond by placing young players in a more structured development environment.
Beyond preparing players to represent Fiji, the initiative aims to help them build meaningful careers through rugby and positively impact their families, communities and country.
The Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union, regional zones, teachers, coaches, parents and supporters have also played an important role in identifying and developing the participating players alongside Fiji Rugby and its programme partners.
As the first initiative of its kind for Fiji Rugby, the Nasoko Programme represents more than talent identification. It is part of a wider effort to develop coaches, strengthen the national rugby pathway and build the future of the sport through collective support across Fiji’s rugby ecosystem.
