Match Report: Nadi retains INKK Fiji Rugby Farebrother Trophy

Nadi Rugby retained the INNK Fiji Rugby Farebrother Trophy after beating Rewa 25-15 in a mouth-watering battle at Prince Charles Park.

Rewa had the first chance to go up on the score board but Apenisa Deve failed to slot the kick in between the post.

The Jetsetters found the momentum in the 16th minute as Sivanilolo Lumelume dived for the first try. Anasa Koroitamana slotted in a penalty kick to extend their lead 8-nil.

Both teams took a break with Nadi narrowly leading 8-3 at the breather.

Rewa came fired up in the second spell. Samuela Valagi try and Deve’s conversion gave the away team a 10-8 lead.

The experience of being in the top tier helped Nadi as they showed their power in the final quarter of the game. Napolioni Dawai, Tevita Mociu and Maikeli Sivo scored a try each as the host claimed the prestigious trophy.

Nadi Rugby official Jeff Tamata said they expected a tough encounter against Rewa and were prepared for it.

“It’s always the case as first challenge is always tough game and if we look back at the history whenever Rewa plays Nadi its always a close game “said Tamata.

“Rewa came well prepared but we would like to thank our boys, the way they took the pressure and played for that whole 80 minutes.

Our coaching staff had a good chat with the players at the half time break.

They were told to stick to the game plan and do the basic right” he added.

Nadi challenges Naitaisri next week at Prince Charles Park.
