Fijian 7s stars up for Skipper Challenge

Skipper Cup fans can expect some exciting rugby when round 2 kicks off tomorrow (1/8/20) as provincial team coaches were given the green light to select national 7s stars into their match day lineups.

With the World Sevens Series temporarily suspended, Fijian 7s head coach Gareth Baber has injected a new focus to our provincial competition to expose our players into more game time over this disrupted 2020 season.

After all, the players just want to play Rugby.

Baber knows that allowing them to participate in the Skipper Cup competition will challenge his chargers in different pressure situations and can be a positive addition to their game development.

“I always want to keep them as challenged as possible by playing fifteens rugby.”

Whilst, playing fifteens rugby isn’t new to most of these players, what fans can expect is change of pace and impact these dynamic stars of the 7s stage will bring.

The Fijians 7s squad have returned to or been recruited into their preferred provincial teams.

For this weekend’s clash, Farebrother holder Nadroga selected Fijian 7s powerhouse Sevuloni Mocenacagi at number 13 with Peceli Nacebe at 10.

Terio Tamani and Jiuta Wainoqolo will be on the bench for Suva. Yasawa flyer Napolioni Bolaca will be donning the number 10 jersey for the Marlins.

The rest of the squad are yet to be selected, coming off rehab programmes but can be expected to appear in the upcoming rounds.

Meli Derenalagi , Alasio Naduva, Livai Ikanikoda, Terio Tamani, and Jiuta Wainiqolo are in the Suva team while Sevuloni Mocenacagi, Peceli Nacebe, Rusiate Nasove, and Kavekini Tabu joins Nadroga. Kilione Nasoko teams up with Napolioni Bolaca for Yasawa.

Round 2 clash will feature Farebrother holder Nadroga defending the trophy against Namosi at Lawaqa Park, Suva takes on Yasawa at ANZ Stadium, Tailevu takes on Lautoka at Churchill park while Naitasiri battles it with Nadi at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori.
