Fijiana aims for Olympic qualification at Oceania 7s

Fiji Airways Fijiana 7s will be playing at the 2019 Oceania 7s with the aim of qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Oceania 7s will kick off in 2 weeks’ time and will also serve as a regional qualification tournament to the 2020 Olympics.

Fijiana coach Saiasi Fuli emphasize that their ultimate goal going into this tournament is to qualify for the Olympics.

There will be 12 Women’s team from across the Pacific competing at the Oceania 7s for a chance to qualify for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

This will be major challenge for the Fijiana as getting that golden ticket to Tokyo won’t be an easy task which is why they’re running through a tough phase of preparation as Fuli mentioned.

He added that the main focus is based around the key areas of fitness, core skills and their battle plan at the tournament.

“We will continue to work hard in our preparation and the only message I can say right now is the girls are working very hard as we go through the competition phase which is 2 weeks times.”

There will be a few changes in the squad as Fuli is looking to select the best available player to represent the team at the tournament.

The girls have been camping in Sigatoka for 2 weeks with the aim of getting their focus, mental prep and conditioning on the right track.

The girls are also increasing their intensity and momentum in training at the sand dunes in sigatoka,

“Everything is close cantered and the bonding is very important during prep for such tournaments.”

Oceania 7s will kick off from 7th November to 9 November.
