What’s up for grabs at the Annual Awards

The 2019 Fiji Rugby Union Annual Awards Presented by Coca Cola will be held on Saturday 29 February at the Grand Pacific Hotel, Suva. 

The Fiji Rugby awards will feature the announcement of the 16 awards categories which are the Fijian 7s, Fijiana 7s, Fijiana XVs, Flying Fijians, Fijian Drua, and Under20 player of the year, best domestic player, team of the year, coach of the year, match official of the year, Primary and Secondary school player of the year, and Administrator of the year. 

In addition, life achievement award, professional development award, and Hall of fame inductee will also be announced at the awards. 

The awards Gala has become a feature event on the annual rugby calendar with this year’s gala set to be another incredible celebration of the out of this world year in rugby.

Awards and Criteria

  • Fijian 7s player of the year sponsored by Fiji Airways

Male Fijian 7s player who achieved outstanding results in 2019 in terms of best sportsmanship, leadership qualities, commitment, motivational and development role. 

  • Flying Fijian Player of the year sponsored by Fiji Airways

Male XVs player who has excelled and achieved outstanding performances in 2019, either locally or abroad. Excelled at the highest level in XVs Rugby within the past 12 months. A player who has always shown respect for Match Officials, opponents and for the rules of the Game. Always demonstrate and promotes the Rugby values of friendship, excellence, respect and consistently presented a positive public image.

  • Fijiana 7s Player of the year sponsored by Fiji Airways

This category will be awarded to the Fijiana 7s player, who have achieved outstanding results in 2019 on the international arena showing sportsmanship, leadership qualities, commitment, motivational & development role, administrative roles within NFs & any other additional qualities.

  • Fijiana Player of the year sponsored by Fiji Airways

A player who has excelled and achieved outstanding performances in 2019, either locally or abroad, excelled at the highest level in XVs Rugby within the past 12 months. Always shown respect for Match Officials, opponents and for the rules of the Game, and clearly demonstrated and promoted the Rugby values of friendship, excellence and respect and consistently presented a positive public image.

  • Fijian Drua Player of the year sponsored by Fiji Airways

As voted by their peers, this category will be awarded to the most outstanding performances for the team, respect for match officials, opponents and rules of the game, demonstrated and promoted rugby values of friendship and excellence and consistently presented a positive public image.

  • Fijian Under20 Player of the year sponsored by Vodafone

A Under 20 representative with the most Outstanding performances, respect for match officials, opponents and rules of the game, showcased rugby values of friendship and excellence and consistently presented a positive public image.

 

  • Provincial  player of the year sponsored by CJ Patel

Player in the Skipper Cup or Vanua Championship who showed outstanding performance, respect for officials and opponents, promoted rugby values and consistently presented a positive public image.

 

  • Team of the year sponsored by Marsh 

A team which have excelled and achieved outstanding results at the highest level of the sport in 2019.

 

  • Coach of the year sponsored by Fiji Water

Based on achievements during 2019 including the significance of the achievements and the value of this to the Union and rugby in general. Selection will be based on innovation, leadership, accreditation, commitment, professionalism and results achieved.

 

  • Match official of the year sponsored by Tattslotto

Fijian domestic or International match official who have officiated in a significant number of games during the year, demonstrating their commitment to develop the technical aspect of their sport at all levels (club, district, national, regional & international).

Demonstrated on-field competence and attitude. Participated in or conducted technical training sessions and has contributed to technical and professional development of the sport.

 

  • Primary and Secondary School player of the year sponsored by Vodafone

Primary and Secondary School players who showed an outstanding performance in 2019; personal attributes of respect, friendship and leadership. 

 

  • Hall of Fame inductee sponsored by Paradise Beverages

The Hall of Fame Award recognizes the outstanding achievements of an individual in lifting the profile of the game, mentoring, development and promoting rugby values in Fiji.

 

  • Lifetime Achievement Award sponsored by Fiji Broadcasting Commission

Recognizes the holistic contributions of an individual to the sport of rugby.

 

  • Professional Development Award sponsored by PRPA

The selection criteria for this award is based on the player’s commitment in achieving their Personal Development Goals so they can thrive now and post rugby.

 

  • Administrator of the Year sponsored by Fiji Holdings

Rugby Administrators with most significant achievements and the value of this to the Union or to Rugby in general. Selection is based on innovation, leadership, accreditation, commitment, professionalism and results achieved. Nominee must have contributed significantly in the development of the organization’s Union.
