HSBC SVNS Men’s Top Try Scorer: Nasova and Moneta Share Honors

For the first time in 20 years, the men’s SVNS series has seen its top try-scoring title shared, with Fiji’s Joji Nasova and Argentina’s Marcos Moneta both finishing the season with 26 tries each—a feat last achieved in the 2003-04 season.
For Joji Nasova, 24-year-old flyer has etched his name into Fijian rugby sevens history, becoming only the fourth Fijian to claim the top try-scoring crown in a single SVNS series. He follows legends Vilimoni Delasau (1999-2000), Nasoni Roko (2002-03), and Samisoni Viriviri (2013-14).
Since his debut in Hong Kong last season, Nasova has been a revelation. His two crucial tries in Fiji’s 43-21 semi-final win over Argentina helped secure their first series title in 22 tournaments, in Dubai. Beyond his try-scoring exploits, Nasova also topped the points standings with 158, becoming the first Fijian to do so since Napolioni Bolaca in 2020.
Meanwhile, Marcos Moneta, the 2021 Player of the Year once again proved why he’s one of the most electrifying talents in sevens. Returning from injury after booking his spot at the Paris 2024 Olympics, the 25-year-old wasted no time rediscovering his best form.
Moneta’s blistering pace and clinical finishing made him a nightmare for defenses, as he matched Nasova’s 26 tries. His return injected new energy into Argentina’s attack, playing a pivotal role in their title-winning campaign this season.
