HISTORIC FIRST TITLE FOR NASINU AS THEY DEFEAT NAMOSI IN SUBRAILS MARAMA FINAL

Saturday, 31 October 2026
Nasinu created history on Saturday after claiming their first-ever Subrails Marama Championship title, defeating Namosi 62-24 in a dominant performance in the 2026 final.
A five-try masterclass from Aqela Raitubu inspired Nasinu to a memorable victory, with the newly crowned champions running in 10 tries to overpower a determined Namosi side.
The historic triumph was made even more significant by the fact that both finalists, Nasinu and Namosi, represent provincial unions whose men’s teams compete in the Vodafone Vanua Championship, Fiji Rugby’s second-tier provincial competition.Unlike the other teams competing in the Subrails Marama Championship, whose respective men’s teams feature in the top-tier Skipper Cup competition, Nasinu and Namosi demonstrated that provincial unions from the Vanua category can also compete at the highest level of women’s domestic rugby.
Their appearance in the final highlighted the growing strength and competitiveness of women’s rugby across Fiji’s provincial unions, regardless of their men’s competition classification.
Nasinu wasted little time asserting their dominance, opening the scoring through Raitubu in just the third minute before Sera Bolatini crossed two minutes later. Lydia Waqairapoa added the conversion to give Nasinu an early 12-0 advantage.
The pressure continued as Anaisi Qiolevu crossed in the eighth minute, followed by Raitubu’s second try three minutes later. Waqairapoa converted to extend Nasinu’s lead to 24-0 after just 11 minutes.
Despite the difficult start, Namosi showed resilience and fought their way back into the contest.
Roela Koroimarama opened Namosi’s account in the 18th minute, with Litia Kereburogo adding the extras, before Vinaisi Adiqilasoi crossed in the 26th minute to reduce the deficit to 24-12.
Nasinu responded through Sesaya Julie in the 29th minute, but Namosi had the final say of the opening half when Lusiana Tareguci scored in the 38th minute, leaving Nasinu with a 29-17 advantage at the break.
The second half, however, belonged to Nasinu.
Raitubu completed her hat-trick in the 47th minute before adding her fourth try seven minutes later, stretching Nasinu’s lead to 41-17.
Waqairapoa then crossed in the 62nd minute and converted her own try to push the score to 48-17.
Namosi refused to surrender, with Unaisi Rigamoto crossing in the 65th minute and Kereburogo adding the conversion to bring the score to 48-24. But Nasinu’s attacking momentum proved unstoppable.
Raitubu capped off an outstanding individual performance with her fifth try in the 68th minute, before Bolatini completed her double in the 75th minute. Waqairapoa converted both tries to seal an emphatic 62-24 victory.
Waqairapoa also played a crucial role in Nasinu’s success, contributing 17 points through a try and six conversions.
Under the leadership of captain Silika Qalo, Nasinu produced an impressive attacking display, combining early intensity with clinical finishing to secure their maiden championship title.
For Namosi, the defeat brought a disappointing end to their campaign, although their four tries and determination to fight back from an early 24-point deficit demonstrated their resilience.
Beyond the final score, the championship decider marked a significant occasion for both provincial unions. With their men’s teams competing in the Vodafone Vanua Championship,
Nasinu and Namosi’s achievement in reaching the women’s top-tier final showcased the depth of rugby talent emerging from unions outside the men’s Skipper Cup competition.
For Nasinu, the victory represents a historic milestone for the union and its women’s rugby programme, with the team writing a new chapter in provincial rugby history as first-time Subrails Marama champions in 2026.
