Fijiana XV Crowned Oceania Champions with Commanding Win Over Manu Sina
The Vodafone Fijiana XV have successfully defended their Oceania Rugby Women’s Championship title with a dominant 60–7 victory over Manu Sina at Govind Park in Ba on Saturday.
Backed by a healthy home crowd, Fijiana delivered another clinical performance following their emphatic win over Tonga last week, finishing the tournament unbeaten and firmly establishing their status as the region’s top side.
Fiji ran in nine tries in an impressive all-round display, with winger Aqela Raitubu leading the charge with a hat-trick, while powerful number eight Manuqalo Komaitai crossed twice. Additional tries came from Merewairita Neivoha, Tiana Robanakadavu, Vika Nakacia, and Sulita Waisega.
Fullback Litiana Vueti was influential with the boot, slotting six conversions and adding a penalty goal to keep the scoreboard ticking.
Fijiana struck early through Komaitai in the ninth minute, with Vueti converting for a 7–0 lead. Neivoha followed soon after, before Vueti extended the advantage with a penalty goal. Robanakadavu added another try late in the first half, and Raitubu crossed just before the break to give Fiji a comfortable 27–0 lead at halftime.
The second half saw more of the same, as Raitubu grabbed her second immediately after the restart, followed by Nakacia’s try to push the score out to 41–0. Manu Sina responded with their only points in the 59th minute through Machiko Silila Fepuleai, but Fiji quickly regained control.
Waisega added another in the 70th minute, before Raitubu completed her hat-trick and Komaitai sealed the win with her second try late in the match.
Despite a brief setback with Robanakadavu receiving a yellow card in the second half, Fiji maintained composure and control throughout the contest.
Head coach Mike Legge praised his side’s commitment to their process rather than focusing on title defence.
“I think the defence of this trophy really hasn’t come into our conversations at all during this tournament. It was just about sticking and staying disciplined to our process,” Legge said.
“We went away from our game plan a few times again today, but when the girls stick to the process, they show what they’re capable of. I’m very happy.”
Legge also highlighted the performances of new players, including debutant Kelera Roqorua.
“She played well, got some opportunities out there, defended well and ran well. She should be proud of her debut. All our debutants across these two games should be proud, it’s great for our depth.”
While pleased with the result, Legge acknowledged areas for improvement, particularly around consistency.
“We were pretty happy with our set piece, but there were a couple of times we went to sleep. At the level we want to get to, we can’t afford those lapses. Discipline and staying in the game will be a continuous work-on for us.”
The team will now take a short break before turning their attention to upcoming Super W preparations.
“We’ve given the girls a week off, then we’re straight into Super W prep starting May 4. Our first hit-out will be a preseason game against the Waratahs, and the majority of this group, including the young girls, will be part of that moving forward.”
With back-to-back wins and a successful title defence, Fijiana XV have laid down a strong marker as they continue building toward higher-level international competition.
