FIJI Water Flying Fijians Prop Luke Tagi Withdraws Due to Injury

June 25, 2025

The FIJI Water Flying Fijians have announced that prop Luke Tagi has been ruled out of the upcoming test season due to an ankle injury sustained while playing for his Top 14 club, Bayonne, in France.

After careful consultation between Head Coach Mick Byrne, Tagi, and the medical staff at Bayonne, it was mutually agreed that the forward should stand down from all rugby activities to focus on a full recovery and receive the necessary medical treatment.

“Luke is an important part of our squad, and his presence will be missed during the upcoming matches,” said Coach Mick Byrne.

“However, his long-term health and recovery are our top priorities. We’re confident he’ll receive the best possible care in France and look forward to seeing him back at full strength in the future.”

Tagi, who is contracted with Bayonne until 2028, will remain in France to undergo rehabilitation. In his absence, the Flying Fijians have called up Samu Tawake as his replacement for the upcoming test season.

The FIJI Water Flying Fijians management and fans extend their best wishes to Luke for a speedy recovery and thank Samu Tawake for stepping up to represent the national team.

The FIJI Water Flying Fijians are scheduled to meet the Wallabies on July 6th in Newcastle followed by their home test against Scotland in Suva on July 12th.
