Three Finals, One Rugby Family Fiji Rugby Sets the Stage for Championship Showdowns

October 28, 2026

The stage is set for an exciting weekend of domestic rugby as Fiji Rugby today hosted the official press conference for the 2026 Skipper Cup and Subrails Marama Cup Finals, bringing together representatives of the six finalist teams, sponsors and rugby stakeholders ahead of Saturday’s championship clashes.

The finals, scheduled for Saturday, 31 October 2026, at Churchill Park in Lautoka, will see traditional rivals Nadi and Nadroga battle for supremacy in both the Senior and Under-20 Skipper Cup competitions, while defending champions Namosi face Nasinu in the Subrails Marama Cup Final.

With three championship titles on the line, the weekend promises to showcase the pride, passion and talent that continue to define Fiji’s provincial rugby competitions.

Speaking at the press conference, the Fiji Rugby CEO highlighted the significance of the occasion, acknowledging the sacrifices made by players, coaches, families and communities throughout the season.

“Behind every team that has reached these finals is a story. A story of sacrifice, discipline, resilience and belief.”

The CEO emphasised that the finals represent more than championship glory, reflecting the important role rugby plays in connecting communities and developing future national representatives.

Nadi and Nadroga Renew Historic Rivalry
The Senior Skipper Cup Final will feature two of Fiji’s most celebrated rugby provinces, Nadi and Nadroga, in a contest steeped in history, tradition and provincial pride.

Both teams have demonstrated remarkable consistency throughout the competition, recording eight victories each across nine reported matches from Round Five through to the semifinals.

Their previous meeting in Round Eight saw Nadroga claim a narrow 20–17 victory, setting the scene for another fiercely contested encounter.

The CEO reminded both teams of the responsibility that comes with representing their provinces on the biggest stage of domestic rugby.

“You are not simply representing the players standing beside you. You are carrying the pride, history and hopes of your provinces, your Vanua.”

CJ Patel Reaffirms Commitment to Provincial Rugby
Long-standing Skipper Cup sponsor CJ Patel Group also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting provincial rugby and nurturing local talent.

Speaking on behalf of the company, its representative highlighted Skipper Tuna’s partnership with the competition, which dates back to 2014, and the importance of investing in communities through rugby.

“For us, this sponsorship is about more than rugby. It is about investing in our people, creating opportunities for our players, and strengthening the communities that make Fijian rugby so special.”

The representative acknowledged the role of the competition in developing players and creating pathways towards national and international rugby.

“Skipper Cup provides a platform for players to showcase their talent, represent their provinces with pride and build pathways towards national and international success.”

The CJ Patel Group also expressed appreciation to consumers for their continued loyalty to the Skipper Tuna brand, recognising that community support remains central to its long-standing partnership with Fiji Rugby.

“We remain committed to supporting provincial rugby and building a stronger future for the game in Fiji.”

Future Stars Take Centre Stage in Under-20 Final
The next generation of Fiji Rugby talent will also be in the spotlight as Nadi and Nadroga meet in the Under-20 Skipper Cup Final.

Defending champions Nadi secured their place following a dramatic 18–17 semifinal victory over Ba, while Nadroga delivered an impressive 48–31 win against Suva.

With just one point separating the two sides in their earlier meeting this season, another closely fought contest is expected.

Beyond the championship, the CEO stressed the importance of the Under-20 competition in strengthening Fiji Rugby’s player development pathways.

“You are not simply competing for an Under-20 championship. You are preparing yourselves for the opportunities and responsibilities that lie ahead.”

The competition continues to provide a vital platform for young players aspiring to progress into senior provincial rugby, professional opportunities and ultimately the national team.

Namosi and Nasinu Set for Women’s Rugby Showdown
The Subrails Marama Cup Final will see defending champions Namosi take on Nasinu in a clash that highlights the continued growth and competitiveness of women’s rugby in Fiji.

Namosi booked their place in the final after edging Nadi 41–39 in a thrilling semifinal, while Nasinu secured their spot with a 38–29 victory over Suva.

Both teams have displayed attacking flair, resilience and determination throughout the competition, setting the stage for an exciting championship encounter.

The CEO acknowledged the wider impact of women’s rugby, particularly in creating opportunities and inspiring young girls across the country.

“The success of women’s rugby must never be measured by the scoreboard alone. It must also be measured by the opportunities we create.”

A Celebration of Fiji’s Domestic Rugby
The 2026 season has highlighted the strength and depth of Fiji’s provincial rugby system, with matchday reports recording 216 matches across the three competitions.

Last week end’s six semifinals alone produced a combined 378 points, reflecting the attacking quality and competitiveness on display.

The CEO reaffirmed Fiji Rugby’s commitment to strengthening domestic competitions through player development, improved standards, commercial sustainability and greater engagement with supporters.

With the finals approaching, Fiji Rugby is calling on supporters, families and communities to turn out in numbers and proudly back their provincial teams.

“Bring your families. Bring your friends. Wear your provincial colours proudly.”

Echoing the call, the CJ Patel Group representative expressed the company’s hopes for a memorable conclusion to the competition.

“May this Saturday’s finals be a celebration of sporting excellence, unity, provincial pride, and the lasting spirit of Fijian rugby.”

As the six finalists prepare for their ultimate challenge, Fiji Rugby and its partners are looking forward to a memorable celebration of the people, communities and traditions that make rugby an important part of Fiji’s identity.
