The Vodafone Vanua Championship is Fiji Rugby’s second-tier provincial competition, featuring 14 unions divided into four regional pools: Central, Eastern, Western, and Northern. Teams compete in a home-and-away round robin format before progressing to the semi-finals and finals. The two finalists earn promotion to the Skipper Cup for the following season.

Additionally, the competition not only promotes competitive rugby but plays a crucial role in developing grassroots talent and encouraging provincial pride as well.

There are currently two separate divisions within the Vodafone Vanua Championship, Senior Men’s and Under 20. The Women’s division began in 2018 as a 10 a side competition and has experienced extensive growth in its two year history, with expansion into full XVs for 2020. However, as of 2022, Royal Tea has become the official sponsor for the the women’s second division provincial competition, currently called the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup.

Vanua Elimination

As of 2026, teams competing in the Vodafone Vanua Competition, will contest a single-round regional elimination format to determine promotion to the Skipper Cup.

Under the new format, teams from the Vanua Levu region will compete across three elimination rounds, while teams from the Viti Levu region will battle through five rounds. The top-performing team from each region will secure a promotion to the Skipper Cup.

This expansion will see the Skipper Cup grow from 10 to 12 teams in 2026, creating more opportunities for unions in the Vodafone Vanua Competition to earn their place in Fiji’s premier provincial rugby tournament.

The regional elimination format strengthens the provincial pathway and gives emerging unions from both Vanua Levu and Viti Levu a greater opportunity to compete at the highest domestic level, while continuing to grow the depth and competitiveness of provincial rugby across Fiji.
