Fijian Barbarians Overcome Tough Tests on Day One of Coral Coast 7s

January 16, 2026

The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team, competing under the banner of the Fijian Barbarians, navigated a challenging first day at the Coral Coast 7s on Thursday.

The Osea Kolinisau-coached side opened their campaign with a solid 22-5 victory over the Seattle Barbarians. However, their second match proved a far sterner test. They faced a formidable Police Blues side featuring former national 7s stars like Waisea Nacuqu.

In a tense, physical encounter, the Barbarians narrowly edged their opponents 7-5 at the final whistle. Speaking after the match, Coach Kolinisau acknowledged the close call.

“We were lucky to come away with a win against a very good Police side, but our goal was to win both our games today,” Kolinisau said. “The game was 7-5. It shows how tough the game was. We got a lucky bounce in that last play.”

The team now looks ahead to the tournament’s knockout stages.
