Legge to Play for Grandmother in Emotional Breast Cancer Awareness Clash

When the Shop n Save Fijian Warriors run onto King Charles Park this Thursday, their match against the Australian Country side will be about more than just rugby. For forward Breyton Legge, it will be a profoundly personal mission to honor his grandmother, a breast cancer survivor.

The match, scheduled for Thursday at 2pm, is doubling as a crucial fundraiser and awareness campaign for breast cancer, with all gate proceeds being donated to the Fiji Cancer Society. For Legge, the cause hits close to home.

In an emotional revelation, the Warriors forward shared that his grandmother endured multiple battles with the disease. “My grandmother had a few run-ins with breast cancer and she overcame the challenges,” Legge said. “So it’s a big thing for me to be able to spread the awareness on early detection through this match.”

He described the difficult period for his family, watching a loved one fight the illness. Yet, his grandmother’s resilience left a lasting mark. “For my family, it was a really hard time… but through all that, she was able to put a smile on everyone around her,” Legge recalled. “This is why I’m happy to be playing this Thursday—to honor cancer survivors and encourage those currently battling cancer to be strong through their challenge.”

Legge’s story adds a powerful, human dimension to the team’s broader goal of supporting the Fiji Cancer Society.
