Fiji Rugby Honors Past Heroes with Long-Awaited Test Caps

In a heartfelt and ongoing initiative, Fiji Rugby has continued its mission to formally cap former players who proudly represented the nation on the international stage, finally bestowing upon them the official recognition they earned decades ago.

The program, which has seen several former Flying Fijians receive their Test caps at international matches in Suva this year, took a nostalgic turn this weekend. The ceremony moved from the national stadium to the heartland of the sport, as three legends from the 60s, 80s, and 90s were honored in front of a passionate local crowd.

The historic capping took place during the halftime interval of the Inkk Farebrother Challenge match between Naitasiri and Suva at the Naluwai grounds in Naitasiri and on hand to deliver the caps were FRU Board Chairman, Mr John Sanday, and FRU Acting CEO, Mr Koli Sewabu.

The three gentlemen recognized for their services were:
Ratu Jese Romokidawa, a stalwart of the 1960s who represented Fiji in matches against the New Zealand Maori in 1964.
Mitieli Kaicino, who earned the distinction of representing Fiji on the world stage as part of the inaugural 1987 Rugby World Cup squad.
Ratu Waisake Tuisese, a key player who represented the Flying Fijians on their prestigious UK Tour in 1998.
This ceremony follows similar events held earlier this year during the July Test match between the FIJI Water Flying Fijians and Scotland, and more recently during the Pacific Nations Cup match against Tonga, both in Suva.

The move to cap these former playrs serves as a powerful reminder of the rich and enduring legacy of Fijian rugby, connecting the stars of today with the heroes of yesteryear.
