Fiji Deaf Rugby Teams Present iTatau Ahead of Historic Pacific Tournament

Fiji’s Men’s and Women’s Deaf Rugby teams and management presented their iTatau to the Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Jese Saukuru, who conveyed the well wishes of the Fiji Government, families and supporters, as the teams prepare to compete in the inaugural Pacific Rim Deaf Sevens tournament in Gold Coast, Australia, from June 28-29, 2025.
The tournament will feature top teams, with Fiji’s men facing off against Australia, Japan, and Samoa, while the women’s competition includes Australia and a Barbarians side. This historic event highlights the growing inclusivity and recognition of Deaf athletes in Pacific rugby.
Hon. Saukuru reaffirmed the Fijian Government’s full support for athletes with disabilities, stating: “Your Government has supported your team through funding from the Fiji National Sports Commission. As you take the field in the next few days, perform to the best of your abilities—know that the entire nation is behind you with our prayers and support.”
He urged the teams to represent Fiji with pride, saying, “Fly the Fiji flag high and be great ambassadors, both on and off the field.”
The nation now turns its eyes to Gold Coast, where Fiji’s Deaf Rugby teams will make history on the international stage.
