FRU Launches “Fiji for 7s” Social Media Campaign

The Fiji Rugby Union has today launched a Social Media Campaign that will provide everyone the chance to support and register for the “Fiji for 7s” bid in a creative way.

The campaign, “Fiji Flair” will run from today, Wednesday, 31 January till Friday, 23 February and five winners will be announced on Friday, March 9th, 2018.

In order to go into the draw to win one of five signed Fiji Sevens jerseys, the FRU is encouraging all social media enthusiasts and Fiji Rugby supporters to upload their most creative and original “Fiji for 7s” bid photo or video showing their support.

These could be in the form of an individual, a group of friends or family members cheering, singing or posing at home, in the office, around the Grog tanoa or while skydiving.   All entries must also include the slogan “Fiji for 7s, It’s time” in either written format or it can be chanted out like a cheer.  These can be uploaded to the Fiji for 7s and Fiji Rugby Facebook Page and all entrants must encourage their friends and followers on Facebook to “Like” their support photo or video.  Participants are encouraged to enter as many times as possible.

FRU CEO, Mr John O’Connor says that while the numbers for the bid are slowly increasing daily, there is still a need to reach the 100,000 mark in order to show World Rugby that all Fijians are in full support of the bid.

“I would like to encourage everyone to participate in this Social Media Campaign in order to show World Rugby that we have the support of the country and all Fijians around the world, to host a leg of the World Sevens Series right here at home.”

“This is one of the many campaigns that the task team has engaged and this is our way of involving all Fijians because when we present it to World Rugby we will not only present it on behalf of the FRU but also on behalf of the country and all Fijians in and around the world.”

“FRU will itself be posting daily photos of everyday Fijians wearing “Fiji for 7s T-shirts’’ so watch out for our own contribution, designed to inspire everyone to join our campaign. Facebook followers will see a Firewalker, Petrol attendant and Churchill Park groundsman on the first day and we have lots more to come over the next four weeks.”

“So come on Fiji get behind the bid and show your support – the Fijian creative, comical and energetic style that all Fijians are well known for all over the world.”

The campaign can be followed on Facebook “Fiji for 7s” and “Fiji Rugby”, Twitter #fijifor7s, #fijirugby and Instagram “Fiji for 7s”; hashtags should include #fijifor7s and #fijirugby.
