Yasawa is ready to clinch the inaugural ANZ Marama Championship trophy

The Yasawa women’s rugby team is one game away from clinching the ANZ Marama Championship trophy when they take on Suva in the final at Ratu Cakobau Park in the final today.

Building up for the most important game, the Yasawa women’s senior team has gone through many obstacles but through their determination and teamwork, they have managed to climb to the top of the table as one of the two finalists for this season.

Team manager Mereoni Tuinanuya believes that endurance and faith played a huge role in the team’s pathway to the final.

“Our focus is to keep the momentum. The girls have gone through a lot this season and we have come this far through their hard work and our faith in God” said Tuinanuya.

“We are a four-year-old union and to come this far even reaching the final is itself a milestone.

With our men’s team winning the Vodafone Vanua Championship, it has surely had a huge impact as a motivational factor on our team.

“We worked within our means and are grateful for everything that we have had despite the hardships we’ve faced as a team but we never gave up on reaching the final.

After the men’s victory in the Vodafone Vanua Championship in the senior and Under-19 grades, the Yasawa women’s team is motivated to accomplish the same result as their brothers in the tier two competition.

“The win from the men and the Under 19 men’s team is a big boost to the women’s side,” said Tuinanuya.

“We believe that we are representing the Vanua, families, and friends who have been supporting us through this season and we want to make them proud supporters of Yasawa when we play in the final this weekend.

The gates open at 10am. Nadi takes on Naitasiri at 2pm in the Under-19 final while Suva faces Yasawa in the grand final at 4pm on Saturday at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori.
