World Rugby Pacific Challenge

World Rugby Pacific Challenge.

The World Rugby Pacific Challenge is an annual Rugby Tournament targeted at national under 23 teams managed by World Rugby held in the Oceania region and predominately contested by the 3 Pacific Island Nations of Tonga, Samoa and the Fiji.

In 2019 Japan Junior will also participate in the tournament to be held in Suva, Fiji.

The tournament, contested by National A teams is a stepping stone for up and coming talent to progress along the pathway towards their respective National team.

The World Rugby Pacific Challenge is a platform creating opportunity for bring emerging young talent to step up to senior international standard of rugby.

It is also a strategy by World Rugby with the aim of improving the competition of rugby in the global arena.

Last year the Swire Shipping Fiji Warriors won the tournament for the third straight time, beating Tonga A 57-7 in the final round.

In 2019 they will be looking to continue their winning streak on home soil against Tonga A, Samoa A and Junior Japan.

This year Fiji will host the Pacific Challenge in Suva on 8, 12 and 16 March 2019.

Tournament Format.
Fixtures will be played in a round robin competition format, with each team playing 3 matches. The winner will be the team who records the maximum number of competition points across the Tournament schedule as outlined below.
