Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors thumps Manuma Samoa

Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors produced one of their best performances as they ran in nine tries to beat Manuma Samoa 60-10 in the first match of the Fiji Rugby Invitational Series at HFC Bank Stadium in Suva.

The visitors had the first say in the game when Ailepata Jnr Lemalu scored the first try after a perfect line-out. It was after 20 minutes, that the Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors got their name on the scoreboard. After numerous attempts, Ilikimi Torosi dived in the corner to level the score 5-all.

Half-back Simi Kuruvoli added three extra points through the penalty kick. Joji Kunavula and Apisalome Vota then scored a try each as the hosts took a 22-5 lead at the breather.

Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors made a powerful start in the final 40 and skipper Tevita Ikanivere beautifully broke the defense to run over for yet another try. The Fijian Warriors were then unstoppable as they scored tries after tries. Ikanivere and Kunavula managed to get a double while Peni Kadralevu, Jack Volavola and Michael Naitokani scored one each as Fijian Warriors thumped Manuma Samoa at home.

Captain Tevita Ikanivere said he was proud of the performance of his players as they played their hearts out in the first match.

“We have young players with us in the team and I was really happy with their performance. They played according to the game plans and it feels good to get a win at home” said Ikanivere.

Coach Kele Leawere said while the score looks amazing there are areas that they still need to work on before the second match.

“We played a really good game but there were also a few loopholes which were exposed by our opponents on which we really need to work on next week.

We will go back, reset, see our injury list and then prepare accordingly for the second game” said Leawere.

Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors takes on Manuma Samoa in the final match of the Fiji Rugby Invitational Series, 3pm at HFC Bank Stadium next Saturday.
