NATIONAL STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH
The Fiji Rugby Union (‘FRU’) is based in the Nation’s capital of Suva and administers the sport of Rugby Union over the Nation’s 14 provinces. The major responsibility of FRU is to continuously develop and improve processes by enabling pathways from “grass root” level to elite, professional level, and national level. FRU endeavors to enhance players’ and officials’ competencies locally and internationally.
An exciting opportunity exists within the Fiji Rugby Union, and we are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic, agile, and self-motivated for the following position:
NATIONAL STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH
This position is responsible for all strength and conditioning programs for the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU) player’s officials and high-performance teams. This includes the development, monitoring, delivery, and assessment of all the strength and conditioning programs; the supervision and oversight of the Licensed Training Centers (LTC), the gym trainers and the daily training environment created within these centres.
Principal Administrative
- Developing and implementing individual and team fitness programs for Men’s and Women’s 7’s, Flying Fijians, Pacific Rugby Cup and Pacific Nation Cup.
- Administer and Conduct Fitness Tests for HPU Players, Academy Players, Colonial Players, Pacific Rugby Cup Players, Pacific Nation Cup players & Flying Fijians.
- Develop and conduct fitness training sessions including training drills, conditioning routines, and fitness training sessions according to player and periodization requirements.
- Monitor and oversee players undergoing rehabilitation and/or suffering from game related injuries.
- Advise and implement basic nutritional plans for all HPU Teams & Players (including Colonial Cup, Pacific Rugby Cup, Pacific Nation Cup & Flying Fijian Teams)
- Monitor all training equipment requirements and ensure that it is safe, serviceable, and managed efficiently.
- Monitor All Overseas based players fitness standards and report regularly to National Head Coach & General Manager High Performance.
- Oversee all HPU License training centers (LTC) Gyms and Gym trainers.
Other General Duties
- Running IRB Strength & Conditioning Courses for development at school level, club, and provincial levels.
- Oversee the implementation of GPS monitoring, analysis and reporting for training and competition for National sides and elite players or any other team that would provide important data in building a research-based approach in developing the Conditioning program for the Union.
- Oversee the implementation of Player Monitoring & Reporting systems within the Licensed Training Environment
- Enhance research-based Strength & Conditioning Models within Fiji Rugby relating to the Long Term Player Development Pathway.
- Enhance the Fiji Rugby Strength & Conditioning Program with consistent upgrading of training, programs, coaching, equipment used, reporting and feedback for players and coaches.
- Adhere to the FRU Staff Code of Behaviour
Qualification, Knowledge, and Skill Requirement:
- A degree in Sports Science, Human Movement, Sports Administration, or another relevant field would be desirable.
- At least 5 years’ experience in the Fitness industry
- Must hold a valid Level 2 – 3 World Rugby Strength and Conditioning Accreditation
- Must hold a valid driving license.
- Experience in specific strength and conditioning of rugby players at provincial level and involvement in other sports would be an advantage
- A background that displays excellent customer relations and workplace co-operation skills.
