MATCH REPORT: Skipper Provincial Cup Northland V Tailevu

Northland created the upset in the second round of the Skipper Provincial Cup beating Tailevu 16-11 in Nausori.

Jovilisi Taraka slotted two quick penalties for Northland as they led 6-nil.

On the 32 minutes a red card was given to Serupepeli Waqalevu for dangerous tackle over Northlands Joseva Rokomatu

A cleanbreak from Tailevu’s Joseph Magoh who then offloaded to Paula Nayacakalou and he ran straight for the corner to score their first try closing the gap to 6-5.

In the 40th minute, Northland conceded a penalty for overside as Tailevu’s Maika Baleinaloto slotted over the penalty and they took a lead of 8 – 6.

Baleinaloto slotted in another penalty on the 63rd minute right from the halfway to extend their lead 11 – 6.

A pick and drive from Northland forward pack in the 72 minute took them through under the post as Pita Wilson scored the winning try for Northland 13 – 8.

Another penalty from Tailevu caused them the game as Northland sealed the win with another 3 points from Mosese Sigarara.

Northland Head Coach Isake Katonibau said that the boys came in to the second half and executed their game structure pretty well.

“Hats off to my players who played their hearts out.

We came here with a mission and we managed to achieve it.

I’m very proud of the boys and their performance” said Katonibau.
