Rugby 7s Helping Raise Kadavu’s Next Generation.

For the first time, the Yaubula Festival in Kadavu featured a three day a seven a side rugby and netball tournament that ran from Wednesday to Friday of this week, aimed towards empowering youths towards a resilient & sustainable Kadavu.

The tournament was introduced as a way for youths to participate in the Yaubula Festival with a further objective to deliver the message of conservation to the future leaders and parents of the island.

A total of 34 teams entered the rugby 7s competition that held a prize pool of $6000 for the winners.  The tournament was open to teams from Kadavu only to encourage on island participation and each team was allowed to play only three players that weren’t from the island.

Fiji Rugby Union sent over a number of top officials to facilitate the game on this 3 days tournament. Tournament organisers were pleased with the outcome of the event, that remained incident free and was played and officiated in the best of spirits.   The organising committee were also assisted by FRU officials based in Kadavu who helped to facilitate operations before and after the tournament.
