FRU Development Unit to begin online courses for coaches

The Fiji Rugby Union Development Unit has re-strategize its approach towards rugby development in the country by introducing online coaching course and rugby skills content series.

FRU National Development Manager Koli Sewabu and his team takes it to the online platform with the aim of introducing more structural rugby skills for players around the country and keeping coaches and managements updated with rugby fundamentals.

Sewabu said “Participants for level 1 Coaching course will register on the World Rugby online passport site and complete the prerequisite requirements before beginning the course.”

“Most of our courses will be online and we’re using the zoom platform and we’ll go through the theoretical components of the course with our participants.

They will send us videos of them doing their coaching skills or presentation which we will assess and see if they’ll get accredited” said Sewabu.

He added “This unprecedented time has affected the whole sporting world bringing everything into a standstill.”

Even though things have come to a stop Sewabu emphasised how they’ve taken this option “to help coaches, match officials and players to keep developing their skills while in isolation.”

The rugby skills content series will be shared on our social media channels so players around the country can follow through to prepare for the kick-off of footy again.

“This unprecedented time has given us the opportunity to rethink and re strategize on what we’re trying to do in terms of rugby Development” said Sewabu.
