Fiji Airways Fijian 7s off to Germany for Oktoberfest 7s

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s coach Gareth Baber has named his 13-member squad for the Oktoberfest 7s to be played in Munich, Germany next week.

2019 HSBC World Sevens Series Champions Asaeli Tuivuaka, Terio Tamani, Napolioni Ratu, Isoa Tabu, Apenisa Cakabalavu and Livai Ikanikoda will be joined by Vodafone Fijian Under-20 reps Anasa Qaranivalu, Osea Natoga and Kaminieli Rasaku.

Coach Baber is using the tour as a further development opportunity for his squad members and to strengthen depth ahead of the 2020 international season.

“Our main motive is to continue developing players for 2019/2020 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and for the Olympic Games” he said.

“I think the inclusion of the Under-20 players clearly shows the academy structure within Fiji Rugby is working.

“It’s an opportunity for these players to learn the process of being a professional rugby player and show us what they can do.”

He highlighted that the experienced players, many of which were part of Fiji’s Pacific Games gold medal, will have a vital role to play during the tournament.

“What I want to see from these players now is to lead this group.

“This is a great opportunity for them to grow their leadership qualities which are necessary to being an international play-er.” Baber explained.

The Fiji Airways Fijian 7s leave for Germany this Sunday 15th September, with competition commencing on the 22nd and 23rd in Munich.
