Close score line between New Zealand Heartland and Vodafone Vanua on first game.

The first game between New Zealand Heartland and Vodafone Vanua ended on a narrow 12-7 score margin.

It was an intense battle as both teams build the momentum early into the first half which saw a struggle from both side in trying to maintain pressure.

An overlap in the corner gave away the first try to New Zealand Heartland 8 minutes onto the first half.

As intensity rise, Vodafone Vanua continue to mount pressure on Heartland at their 22 forcing their way under the post for their first try from number 8 Elia Ratucove on the 29 minute, giving them the lead 7-5.

Onto the second half and it was a territorial game as both teams kicked for territory trying to bring the pressure onto each side’s 22.

The execution of structural play from Heartland caused chaos to Vanua’s defending line which led to a clean break from Heartland outside center, with a lovely support play from inside center Jackson Tagivetau running straight for the try line to score the winning 12- 7.

Heartland maintained the pressure from the Vanua who was desperate on their attack in the dying minutes but fell short as the final hooter cut off their chance to secure the winning point.

Full-time and New Zealand Heartland secured the victory 12-7, the two side will play their second and final match this Saturday (11/9/19) at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka.
