Baber names squad for Hamilton and Sydney

Gareth Baber has named the 13 man Fiji Airways Fijian Sevens touring party to Hamilton and Sydney for the next two legs of the World Rugby HSBC World Sevens Series.

Notable inclusion for the side looking to add to their Cape Town success is the return of Paula Dranisinukula who has passed all necessary fitness and medical tests and has trained very hard following the fracture to his leg on November last year.

Head Coach Baber said that after a solid 5 weeks of training selection was extremely competitive and the squad are prepared for the challenge ahead.

“Paula has worked hard to put his hand up and get himself to where he needs to be for this tournament, he is an honest and noble character who knows what is needed to get across the line in these tournaments.”

Fiji will defend their NZ Sevens title in Hamilton and Baber said the team are looking forward to the support they receive on the ground in New Zealand.

“We have fond memories of Hamilton last year. It was a tough tournament where we played Australia, NZ, Spain, South Africa, Wales and Samoa and were lucky to take the win against Samoa.
So we know this tournament will be tough.

We are looking forward to the Fijian support as always and will be playing as always for the people at home, our country and of course the Lord.”

Kalione Nasoko will continue as the Captain for the next two tournaments.

Fiji face Australia, Argentina and Wales in pool A when the tournament kicks off next Saturday, January 26.
