GIR Plus maps out plan for 2021

Get Into Rugby PLUS is a sport-for-development initiative that was implemented by partners Oceania Rugby, Fiji Rugby, UN Women and ChildFund Rugby for Development.

The program is supported by Australian Aid through partnership with UN Women through the Pacific Partnership to End Violence Against Women and Girls (Pacific Partnership.)

The program is funded by the European Union, and the Governments of Australia and New Zealand, and UN Women together with and Child Fund Rugby for Development.

GIR plus has been effective throughout 2020 during COVID- 19, in keeping children around the country engaged in early rugby developments.

Rugby volunteers all over Fiji have been busy around the clock, even during the festive seasons delivering this program to students around in their respective areas.

The program has been rolled out in schools and communities in the past years to instill rugby fundamentals.

Earlier on Wednesday students from around primary schools in Taveuni took part in an integrated GIR Plus and Quick Rip program organized by rugby development volunteers in the Island, while 32 boys and 26 girls also took part in the program at Nabiti village, Dreketi in Macuata.

FRU Development Manager Koli Sewabu said they’re aiming to introduce the program to some of the crime vulnerable communities in Suva – Nausori area with the aim of teaching these young ones rugby, life values, and the importance of living a healthy life.

“We are piloting this into the community in Kinoya, working in partnership with the Kinoya Crime Prevention Group,” added Sewabu.
