Flying Fijians take a different approach while being under strict quarantine
Fiji Rugby High Performance General Manager Simon Raiwalui has thanked his Flying Fijians staff who have thought outside the box and have come up with ways where players can train twice a day, have their team meetings and Lotu everyday while being under strict quarantine in Christchurch.
Raiwalui said “The Strength and Conditioning staff hold virtual zoom sessions where they train our players twice a day, which is the morning and afternoon sessions.
We all are looking forward to the matches, we are having devotion every evening and the players are in very good spirit and its all shaping well.”
The European based players arrived on the 18th and are in quarantine together with the local based players and management.
Raiwalui said “So we have to stay in our room, we have fresh air time one’s or twice a day where we can go for a short work.
It’s an unusual way to prepare but it is what it is.”
He added all the European based players have arrived in camp.
Australian based Frank Lomani, Mosese Sorovi and Teti Tela will join the camp on Sunday.
Raiwalui thanked Fiji Rugby and New Zealand Rugby for the enormous support towards this campaign.
He added “New Zealand Rugby has been very helpful since the day we arrived into Christchurch.”
“We will remain under strict quarantine until day 7 {yesterday} and when our tests come back negative, hopefully everything goes well then from day 8 to 14 we are allowed to train within a bubble where we will be allowed to go to the field and train in the gym” he said.
He added despite all the challenge the players are looking forward to the test matches.
“Any All Black team is going to be a great team. They are full of depth and talents and we under no illusion know how big this challenge is, we are up for the challenge and we accept the challenge.
It going to be a different preparation for us but the players are excited and looking forward to playing the All Blacks in two test matches” said Raiwalui.
The Flying Fijians take on the All Black in their first test match on the 10th of July at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin. They play their second match on the 17th at FMG Stadium in Hamilton.
