Final two teams confirmed for 3rd leg of Super 7s Series

Cakaudrove 7 Selection is the 15th while Macuata 7 Selection will be the 16th team to participate in the 3rd leg of the Super 7s Series at Ganilau Park in Savusavu on Friday and Saturday.

Fiji Rugby Chief Executive John O’Connor confirmed that the two teams have secured their places after the qualification tournament at Ganilau Park yesterday.  Cakuadrove Selection will be known as North 1 while Macuata Selection will be called North 2.

“Cross of Victory, Bua 7 Selection including the two qualifying teams were selected to take part in a one-day round-robin competition in Savusavu yesterday.

Unfortunately, Bua 7 Selection failed to participate so the competition was between Cross of Victory, Macuata 7 Selection, and Cakaudrove 7 Selection.

All three teams finished with 9 points each but Cakaudrove 7 Selection had better points difference hence they managed to get the 15th place followed by the Macuata 7 Selection which finished second and became the final confirmed team for the third leg” said O’Connor.

O’Connor said it was not an easy choice to select the final two teams as they had a lot of interest from other clubs prior to the qualifying rounds.

He added, “Just like Bukuya which came as a wild card team in the 2nd leg last month, he expects Cakaudrove 7 Selection and Macuata 7 Selection to be the crowd favorites during the two days of competition.”

Fijian 7s Coach Gareth Baber said “It will be quite interesting to watch the bunch of hidden talents and see how they cope up in a tournament which replicates the HSBC World Rugby 7s Series.”

He added “It’s not the end for other teams which are not a part of the 3rd Leg as we will again have wild card entries in our final tournament which will be played at ANZ Stadium in Suva next month.

Cakaudrove 7 Selection {North 1} will go into Pool A with Police Blue, Ratu Filise and Wardens.

Uluinakau, Dominion Brother, Eastern Saints and BLK Stallions are grouped in Pool B.

Macuatau 7 Selection {North 2} will be slotted into Pool C as the 16th team together with Raiwasa Taveuni, Army and Tabadamu.

LAR Barbarians leads Pool D with Wadigi Salvo, Nawaka and Fire.

The 3rd Leg of the Super 7s Series kicks off 8.30am at Savusavu’s Ganilau Park on Friday and Saturday.
