Fiji School Boys wider squad begins preparation

The 2022 Fiji School Boys Selection has been rolled out by the Fiji Rugby High Performance where a total of 70 players have been selected in the wider squad training group.

FRU High Performance understands that past 2 years of non school rugby competition could hinder the Fiji School Boys selection process so HPU came up with the alternative for a holiday skills camp and the National age grade camp in the past two years.

These two age grade rugby camps were part of an initiative organized by the FRU High Performance Academy to engage players from the eastern- central division keeping them involved with all fundamentals of rugby, and keeping them active on the field.

Elite player pathway manager Bill Gadolo explained that it was crucial to keep these school boys engaged in rugby training camp so they don’t lose focus in the game and to also build and hone them up during a long period of non-rugby competition.

Gadolo emphasized that the 2022 Fiji School Boys selection process was made according to the data they got from the two age grade camp as well as the recommendations from various school coaches.

“We made our selection accordingly from closely monitoring our age grade rugby camps, and picking out players according to each players data that we noted down,” said Gadolo

“We also considered recommendations that we received from top Fiji School rugby coaches regarding their top picks to be included into the squad,” he added.

Gadolo added that process for the Fiji School Boys will be ongoing whereas some other players will be selected from an internal Fiji Warriors tournament which will be held later in November.

Gadolo explained that this internal Fiji Warriors rugby tournament is aimed at getting top school boys players from around the country to participate in where Under-20 players will be selected as well as 30 players to be included into the HPU Academy.

“We’ll select our Under-20 squad from this tournaments and also other standout players to join our Academy,” said Gadolo.
