Exciting quarterfinals lined up for tomorrow

Super 7s Series Leaders Police Blue are through to the 3rd Leg of the Cup quarterfinal after winning all its pool matches on day one of the competition at Ganilau Park in Savusavu today.

They defeated Cakaudrove Selection, Wardens and Ratu Filise in-order to progress to the eliminations. They have the services of Fijian 7s players such Waisea Nacuqu, Kalione Nasoko together with experienced hands of Terio Tamani and Keponi Paul.

Police faces Eastern Saints in the first quarterfinal. Eastern Saints counted themselves lucky as they had a win, draw and loss each in its pool games.

Police Blue Captain Keponi Paul said they took each game at a time and came focused.

Paul said “We know there is a lot of expectation from us therefore we needed to stay calm and play every pool game as a final.

Hats off to my players who stood tall against other teams and give their best to ensure we qualified to the quarters.”

In the second quarterfinal, Wardens are through to the Cup quarterfinals for the first time in the series after beating Ratu Filise and Cakaudrove Selection. The side faces Axellerate Stallions.

The Stallions topped Pool B.

Coach Rupeni Nahiga said “We came with a mission and that was to at least make it to the Cup quarterfinals.

Coming out as pool winners is an icing on the cake but then we know the job ahead is not an easy one.”

Tabadamu also looked smart on the day as they finished on top with three wins. They take on Fire which finished second in Pool D.

The final Cup quarterfinal is expected to electrify the atmosphere when Napolioni Ratu’s LAR Barbarians faces Alasio Naduva’s Army.

Barbarians captain Taniela Sadrugu said they came with a plan and that was to top the pool and qualify to the Cup quarterfinal.

“We knew our pool matches would be tough and we took each game as a final.

Quarterfinal will be a tough one and we are sure Army will come in full force to beat us.

We will take a good rest, recover, map our game plan and come prepared for the match tomorrow.

Meanwhile in the Bowl quarterfinals, Ratu Filise meets Uluinakau, Dominion Brothers faces Cakaudrove Selection, Raiwasa Taveuni takes on Nawaka and Wadigi Salvo battles it out against Macuata Selection.

The gates open at 8.30am tomorrow.
