Ba wbd against Colo West

Real disappointment here for Ba as Colo West failed to show for their final encounter thereby denying Ba any real opportunity of winning their pool. However to have done so they would’ve needed to have posted a score of at least 56 or more points and hoped neither Vatukoula or Ra scored highly. In the end though the Ba team were awarded the game by 20-nil to reflect the bonus point default win. It’s more than likely Colo West will not feature again in the B Division competition after their no-show. The FRU Games Committee likely to come down hard on the newcomers.

Vatukoula 8 (3)
Try: Emori Ratu Pen: Sainivalati Kenatale

Ra 11 (11)
Try: Rusiate Ratu Pen: Isoa Gavidi, Nacanieli Ligairi

Ra did what many thought was impossible by beating a home team stacked with players brought in from the Digicel Cup competition for the specific purpose of gaining promotion back into the Major Division. For many it seemed that all Vatukoula had to do was turn up and play in order to secure victory. Ra had other ideas.

Having had the benefit of studying the Vatukoula team over the first two rounds the Ra players knew exactly what to expect and fashioned their win on a solid second half defensive effort which allowed them to defend their halftime lead.

For Ra a sot in the semi-finals await, for Vatukoula its back to the drawing board for at least another season.

Naviti made it two wins from three games though had to come back from a halftime deficit to overhaul Nakasaleka. Despite the loss a much improved performance from the Kadavu side who’ve been distracted with off-field issues concerning player registration of the other teams in their pool.

Yasawa 10 (0)

Waya qualified for the B Division semi-finals unbeaten after a strong performance against Yasawa. Waya will however be disappointed with their second half effort after they were unable to increase their 23-nil first half advantage. Waya will now meet Ra in the first B Division semi-final this Saturday in Lawaqa Park.

Naceva registered their second win in the pool by defeating fellow Island Zone opponents Matuku by the slimmest of margins. While Naceva, like Matuku, may have arrived in the B Division by default, they have shown they possess the calibre of players to mix it with the best teams in the B Division competition as they proved in round one when they gave defending B Division champions Malolo an almighty scare.

Malolo 23
Tries: Penaia Soqeta, Cakacaka Yabakitini Con: Bativunicagi Baleiono, Keni Cagilaba Pen: Bativunicagi Baleiono
YC: Manoa Sova

Serua 5
Pen: Sekonaia Tiko
YC: Viliame Veidreyaki

Malolo needed only a single point against Serua to qualify for the B Division semi, in the end they got all four as the defending B Division champions laid down the gauntlet to all the other semi-finalists. Malolo will meet Macuata in the second B Division semi-final this Saturday at Lawaqa Park.
