Qovu was only 19 when he debuted in Fiji's 29-27 loss to the NZ Maoris in Suva in 2005. The powerful Malevu villager featured well for newcomers Sharks in the 2005 Colonial Cup, reaching the semi-finals. Qovu switched provinces in 2006 to Ovalau in search of more game-time in the Sanyo Cup. He skippered the Fiji U21 side that finished ninth at the 2006 World Championships, including defeats over Scotland and Italy.
