Powerful running Watisoni Votu caught the eye of the selectors while playing for the Vuda Blues at the BP Lautoka 7s in January 2008 in Lautoka. He also possesses a safe pair of hands and a reliable boot. Votu was drafted into the extended training squad to the opening leg of the 2008-09 IRB 7s Series in Dubai and George. He made the final 15 but as a non-traveling reserves. He was also named in the non-traveling reserve to the second leg but an injury to Nemia Ranuku saw Votu called in as replacement. Performed above expectation for a debutant in San Diego and Wellington to earn a spot in the National squad to the RWC 7s in Dubai in March.
