A solid defensive inside centre, Bai skippered the Knights for the 2006 Colonial Cup when off contract from Secom, Japan, then earned a place with Clermont in France.

With seven seasons of international rugby now under his belt, Bai was one of the most experienced players in Fiji's 2007 RWC squad.

In 1999, he played for Sydney Easts, having already finished top points scorer in the Telecom Fiji Cup. His confidence grew with each Fiji cap, and he made the No.12 shirt his own until he broke his ankle against Tonga in June 2001.

In 2002, he joined Southland, and won selection for Fiji's UK and Ireland tour.

In 7s, he also played in the inaugural 1999-2000 IRB Series. He also played through the age-grade national levels from U19s, U21s and U23s. He missed out on the 2003 RWC when coach Mac McCallion insisted he play no NPC rugby at all, so he was forced by economics to stand down.

He returned the following year a stronger, more mature player, and was Fijis principal goal-kicker in the Pacific Five Nations.
