Tautahi Gold recorded their second win in as many weeks, fighting back from a 13-3 down at half time to score 15 unanswered points in the second half to beat Upolu Samoa 18-13 at the death.
Playing in front of 1000 spectators, Upolu Samoa siezed the initiative through the boot of fly half Joshua Keil to lead 6-0 after 25 minutes.
Fangatapu 'Apikotoa chipped away at that lead with a Tautahi penalty on 40 minutes but in doing so provoked a torrent of Upolu pressure, which led to a try by Marlon Sione on the stroke of half time. Keil converted to give Upolu a 13-3 lead.
If the Samoans had finished the first half stronger, the second period saw an immediate response from the Tongans and within the first three minutes of the restart number 8 'Alekisanita Taka went over for a deserved try, which 'Apikotoa converted.
With the score at 10-13, Tautahi Gold made a raft of substitutions but it wasn't until Upolu's Alapasa Cordtz was yellow carded on 76 minutes that the Tongans drew level, 'Apikotoa slotting home the resulting penalty goal.
With the match veering towards a draw, Tautahi Gold made their numerical superiority pay with the final play of the match, replacement win Vungakoto Filimone crossing for the winning try to spark mass celebrations.
Tauathi Gold now draw level with Upolu Samoa in the table on two wins each.
