It's Fiji for Tanya Underline 21 April, 2012
Tanya Dhar, as flag bearer, proudly leads Fiji on to the ground during the march past at the Hong Kong 7s.
Fijian rugby fans erupted in celebration as they watched the Digicel Fiji 7s team break through the New Zealand team’s defenses to win the 2012 Hong Kong 7s last month.

Fiji were worthy winners as they taught the Kiwis a lesson or two in the game of 7s rugby.

It was a proud moment for Fijian fans around the world but no one could be more prouder than the Digicel Fiji 7s team’s flag bearer in So Kon Po, Tanya Dhar.

The 11 year old, of Kashmiri Indian descent, is a big follower of the Fiji 7s rugby team and when nominated to be a flag bearer for the Hong Kong 7s march past she promptly chose her favorite team – Fiji.

Dhar the youngest of four siblings attends West Island School in Hong Kong and has been playing rugby since the tender age of six.

In her congratulatory message to Coach Alivereti Dere and the team she mentioned how she enjoyed watching them at the recent Hong Kong sevens and summed it all up in one phrase “you were simply awesome” she wrote.

Dhar plays for the HKU Sandy Bay rugby play as a hooker and has always been interested in rugby ever since watching her first sevens tournament in Hong Kong.

Dhar intends to continue with her rugby career and plans to play professionally.

She hopes that one day she will be as good as the Fijians.

“I have always enjoyed watching your style of rugby and hope that someday I too can play as well as your great players,” she wrote.
